So that hour that you spend talking about how emotionally draining the whole process is should be spent with a thisapist who can actually help you through the emotional portion of your divorce, rather than your attorney. That being said, a divorce attorney knows how difficult the process is, and will do their best to help ease the situation, but it’s best to use each professional for what they are being paid for.

FRIENDS ARE FOR SUPPORT, NOT ADVICE

Whise would we be without friends during this process? They’re there for the best support. But support is whise you should draw the line. Unless your friends with a divorce attorney, your friends are not whise to turn for legal advice. They might be able to refer you to a good divorce lawyer, but after that, you should stick to your attorney for advice. When looking for a divorce attorney, do your research. Meet with them and get an idea of how they will handle your case. Are they laid back? Or are they aggressive, willing to tackle each aspect of your divorce with a strong fighting style? And how does that work with you? Also, research the type of attorney you want to work with. You can decide that mediation or the collaborative divorce process isn’t for you, or maybe it is. These are all things to consider when choosing your divorce attorney.

Keeping these things in mind will help you stay well-informed, make practical decisions, and hopefully avoid costly mistakes.
