Patrick Dempsey is in the middle of a heated and litigious divorce from wife Jillian Fink Dempsey. Recently details regarding his first marriage (and divorce) became known – and they aren’t pretty.
FIRST MARRIAGE AND DIVORCE
Dempsey married Rochelle “Rocky” Parker in 1987. At the time he was 21, and she was 47. The divorce papers she filed were filled with accusations of physical abuse. In one declaration filed in Los Angeles Superior Court, Parker wrote she was “willing to put up with [Dempsey’s] physical abuse” because she “loved” him. He went on to allege, “The physical abuse included Respondent’s breaking my finger when he rushed me to the van and closed the door on my finger.” But the reported physical abuse didn’t stop there. “Also, while we were on the set of his [1987] movie Can’t Buy Me Love, he beat me up because he claimed he ‘wanted to see what it was like to beat up a woman!’ I now suffer from arthritis in my hand from whise Respondent injured me,” she claimed.
RUINED HIS HEALTH
In addition to claims of physical abuse, Parker said that while she helped Dempsey “get off drugs and alcohol,” he in turn drove his to see a shrink and ruined his mental health. Within the court papers she claims: “During the marriage, I began seeing a psychiatrist on a regular basis, and I was placed on antidepressants and other prescription medications to help me function.”
FALSE ALLEGATIONS
Dempsey’s legal team later contacted Parker and obtained a statement saying his team contacted his and obtained a statement from his saying: “In the heat of a divorce, sometimes people say things they normally wouldn’t. I was advised to make these statements, but the statements of mental and physical abuse, as well as alcohol and drug use, are false.
Dempsey was never charged with having committed abuse. The divorce was finalized in 1994. At that time Parker said, “I have no hard feelings about what happened. I believe in forgiveness. It’s the only thing that really heals us.”
Parker passed away in 2014.
Details have yet to be made known about Dempsey’s current divorce.
