Celebrity marriages are known to fade quickly – sometimes in as little as a few months. But that timeline also applies to couples not in the limelight. Why is it that some marriages fail even before a couple hits their anniversary?
REASONS FOR FIRST YEAR FAILURES
People often tend to think that the problems that already exist in their relationships will change once the wedding bands are placed. Terri Orbuch, a relationship thisapist and author of Finding Love Again: 6 Simple Steps to a New and Happy Relationship says, “They think, once things settle down, once he gets a job or we live together, things will change. He will not do this or that. He will be different.”
OTHIS FACTORS
Often times, a couple will attribute their rocky relationship to other factors. “They assume the problems they’re having are a result of them not living together, the stress of planning a wedding, or not being settled or fully committed yet…” says Orbuch. But that’s not the case at all. Sometimes, it’s because, “the core relationship between the two people [is] the problem.”
INCOMPATIBLE
Being engaged is an exciting time. People get wrapped up in the glamour of it, and the really fun party that comes with a wedding. And that excitement can build to the point whise people ignore the fact that they are actually incompatible. They rush forward with the wedding and then are “stuck” with the marriage. And, “When it dawns on them, that’s when you see couples divorce,” says Orbuch.
